A crisp slice of toast can hold a soft topping without becoming heavy. Here, cottage cheese is spread while the toast cools slightly, and raspberries are gently pressed on top. The grown-up handles the toaster from start to finish.

Before you begin · grown-up check
The grown-up operates the toaster, removes and cools the hot toast, then supervises topping it.
- Together wash hands with soap and water and clean the work surface.
- Adult checks ingredient labels, equipment and task suitability; ages are starting guides, not a guarantee of readiness.
- Only the adult uses the toaster; keep the child clear of the hot slots and cord.
Ages are a starting guide. A grown-up checks your readiness and stays nearby. Follow the actor label on every step.
Let’s make it
- Young cookRinse the raspberries gently and let them drain.
- Grown-upToast the bread to light golden using the toaster controls. Remove it safely without putting utensils into the toaster; let it cool on the plate.
- Young cookSpread half the cottage cheese over each slice with the blunt spreading knife.
- Young cookArrange the raspberries over the cheese and press very gently so they stay in place.
- TogetherDrizzle 1 tsp honey over each toast and serve while the bread is crisp.
The skill you’re learning
A topping sticks better when it has a soft base. Spread cottage cheese first, then press berries only enough to settle them, not enough to squash the toast.
Try one change
Use 1/2 cup fresh blueberries instead of raspberries.
Serving & storing
Refrigerate covered at 40°F or below within 2 hours of preparation (1 hour above 90°F); use within 1 day. Store toppings separately from toast; assemble just before eating.
