Blueberry Oat Muffins
Bake Together
12 small muffins · Active 15 min · Total 55 min
A few lumpy folds make a softer muffin than lots of energetic beating. Blueberries add juicy pockets, and oats give the tops a little texture. This egg-free batter still contains raw flour, so save tasting for the cooled muffins.

Before you begin · grown-up check
The adult operates the oven, handles the hot tin and checks the muffins are fully baked.
- A grown-up checks ingredient labels, the workspace and the young cook’s readiness before starting.
- Adult heats oven to 375°F and washes and dries blueberries.
Ages are a starting guide. A grown-up checks your readiness and stays nearby. Follow the actor label on every step.
Let’s make it
- TogetherWash hands with soap and water, clear the work area and read all the steps before measuring.
- Young cookLine the cold muffin tin. Whisk flour, oats, sugar, baking powder and salt in one bowl.
- Young cookWhisk milk, oil and vanilla in the other bowl. Fold wet ingredients into dry just until no dry flour remains, then gently fold in berries; do not taste batter.
- Young cookDivide between the 12 liners, filling each about three-quarters full. Wash hands and clean raw-batter utensils.
- Grown-upBake 18–22 minutes, until risen and a cake tester inserted away from a berry comes out without wet batter. Rest in tin 5 minutes, then move muffins to a rack to cool for at least 10 minutes.
The skill you’re learning
Fold by sweeping a spatula down the bowl and lifting batter over itself. A few small lumps are fine; constant mixing makes muffins tougher.
Try one change
Replace blueberries with 1 cup diced ripe pear prepared by the adult.
Serving & storing
