Tahini is sesame-seed paste with a gently nutty flavor. A little honey balances it, and mashed banana keeps the filling soft. The young cook can do every preparation step with a spoon, fork and blunt spreading knife.

Before you begin · grown-up check
An adult checks the setup, ingredient labels and task suitability, then stays nearby while the young cook prepares the recipe without heat.

Let’s make it
- Young cookStir the tahini in its jar with a clean spoon first if oil has separated. Measure 2 tbsp into the small bowl.
- Young cookStir in the honey until evenly combined.
- Young cookPeel the banana into the bowl and mash it with the fork, then stir the filling until spreadable.
- Young cookSpread half the filling over each of two bread slices. Add the remaining slices and press lightly. Serve without cutting.
The skill you’re learning
Some seed pastes separate in the jar. Stirring before measuring puts the oil and thicker paste back together so one spoonful is not much thinner than another.
Try one change
Replace the tahini with 2 tbsp smooth sunflower-seed butter if suitable; check all product labels rather than assuming an allergen-free result.
Serving & storing
Refrigerate covered at 40°F or below within 2 hours of preparation (1 hour above 90°F); use within 1 day. The banana filling is best made and eaten the same day.
